Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve is situated in a malaria-free region in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. Offering diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife. The Nambiti Private Game Reserve was started in 1999 from what was originally a cattle and maize farming area. These farms were acquired and then the mammoth task of removing internal fencing and old buildings started. After all the unwanted man-made structures were removed, the task of removing all alien vegetation commenced – this is still on going. After some time the reserve was ready for the delicate task of reintroducing wildlife. Now after many years of productive management, the reserve has come full circle. The fauna and flora is flourishing. Most of the endemic species have returned giving a particularly diverse range of species not found in most protected areas in South Africa. The reserve certainly has plenty of water – so vital to the flourishing wildlife and maintaining this ecosystem at such a high level.
The Nambiti Private Game Reserve is home to the “Big Five” as well as about thirty other game species, including cheetah, hyena and hippo. The bushveld on this game reserve has incredible biodiversity including savannah, grassland, thornveld and tall acacia trees of the Tugela Basin biome. The birdlife is prolific with several rare bird species found in the ravine bush alongside the two 40 metre waterfalls of the Sundays River, which flows through the reserve. Nambiti is close to both the Anglo/Zulu as well as the Anglo/Boer battlefields. The Battle of Elandslaagte was fought partially on Nambiti.
Cannot fault one single thing! We had a brilliant stay! Fantastic sightings, really knowledgeable guide!
Excellent hospitality, especially with all the extra protocols to follow. The food was superb, tasty and beautifully presented with good choice and variety. Tasteful, immaculate accommodation which was welcoming and cosy when it was cold. The fire in the main lodge was excellent. Steph took us to lots of great sightings; she shared lots of new interesting facts about animals and the environment.
What an enjoyable experience! Thank you so much for making our 30th wedding anniversary so special. The hospitality, accommodation, food and game drives were all such an amazing treat -thank you!
The service staff were friendly, helpful and always cheerful! Comfortable and welcoming accommodation. Excellent housekeeping, nothing better than climbing into a well-made bed. Steph is the best ranger, her knowledge is second to none!
All staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were made to feel like “royalty” Rene was particularly attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and generous. Accomodation was very comfortable / clean / Covid protocols were excellent, loved the view. Game drives were great!
Stephanie was excellent, she controlled the vehicle like a veritable rally driver. René and Thembeni looked after us extremely well. The sweets, particularly, were very inventive and attractive – especially decorated with edible flowers from René’s garden.
Check in was a breeze and we instantly felt at home. Excellent game drives and lots of sightings, we laughed a lot with Keegan! Keegan was a fountain of knowledge and we felt super safe and taken care of. Thanks a million!
Everything was exceptional, would not hesitate to recommend Elephant Rock. We will return!
