Celebrating 20 Years of Luxury, Wildlife & Wonder at Elephant Rock
Twenty years ago, Elephant Rock Game Lodge proudly became the very first commercial lodge to open its doors on the Nambiti Private Game Reserve. From the start, our vision was clear: to create a boutique safari lodge that would feel just as welcoming and accessible to South Africans as it would to international guests.
Since then, we’ve had countless moments to celebrate — including the privilege of hosting the legendary Johnny Clegg when he performed under the African skies at Nambiti. But more than anything, we celebrate the people, the wildlife, and the timeless spirit of the bush that have shaped Elephant Rock’s story.
Here are 5 highlights from the past 20 years:
First on the Reserve
We were the very first lodge to open on Nambiti — a pioneering milestone we are exceptionally proud of.
2. Growing and Evolving
From our early days to today, Elephant Rock has grown thoughtfully — continually enhancing the guest experience while staying true to our boutique charm.
3. A Lodge for All
From the outset, Elephant Rock was built with the dream of being accessible to South Africans as well as international visitors. By staying with us, every guest not only shares in our heritage and hospitality, but also directly supports Nambiti’s conservation efforts.
4. Our Team, Our Heart
The Elephant Rock team is at the heart of everything we do. Over the years, we’ve proudly employed and developed local staff. A special mention goes to Thembeni, who has been with us since day one — a true cornerstone of our story
5. A Source of Joy
For owners Sarah and Keith Pitout, Elephant Rock has always been more than just a lodge. Over the years, it has brought immeasurable pride, happiness, and joy — a true home in the bush for 20 unforgettable years.
As we celebrate this milestone, we thank every guest, staff member, and friend of the lodge who has walked this journey with us. Here’s to the next chapter of Elephant Rock — and many more years of timeless safari memories.
