6am:
Rise soon after the sun to a steaming mug of coffee or hot chocolate and early morning snack and catch the early activity at the waterhole from the magnificent deck. 6am is departure time on the morning game drive and very soon you are in the heart of the wild. Zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and a host of antelope are on the move before the heat of the sun forces them back into the undergrowth. A cheetah with three cubs playing in the bushveld keeps our attention for some time. Just when the hunger pains remind you of breakfast, a stop for a mini-breakfast is most welcome. An elegant table with various goodies is set up and the edge is taken off appetites, but not enough to spoil breakfast. Then, back in the vehicle to track the elephant family herd. What a sighting – 17 elephants and a few minutes later a herd of buffalo. Then back to the lodge for a sumptuous breakfast on the deck with all the trimmings.
9am:
A few hours to recover - enjoy a quick nap in your suite or lounge by the pool with a glass of ice cold refreshment.
12pm:
In no time, it is time for the 'not so light lunch'. Tea is served on the deck at 3pm, followed by the evening drive.
3pm:
Perhaps the herd of hippos warming themselves on the shores of the dam, or the herd of 250 eland will be our first sighting.
Before long it is sundowner time. What is better than a few cold drinks in the middle of the African bush? Dusk is fast approaching and it is back to the lodge.
Lion on a kill, with cheeky black backed jackal and hyena on the fringes hoping to steal a morsel, round off a successful game drive. Sherry and a warm towel are very refreshing upon arrival.
7pm:
Back to the suite where a relaxing candlelit bath awaits. Pre-dinner drinks at 7pm around the fire in the boma and an exquisitely presented dinner on the deck overlooking the lodge’s own waterhole, round off a wonderful day in the African bushveld. |
